Drivers Medical (D4)

A D4 driver medical is a formal health assessment required by the DVLA to certify that a motorist is physically and mentally fit to operate a vehicle safely on public roads.

Professional drivers must submit a new medical at key career intervals:

  • Upon initial application for a commercial driver’s license,
  • Every 5 years starting from 45 up until 65,
  • Annually, once the driver reaches 65 (with no upper age limit).
